With a dedicated career in education and community service, Matt brings a wealth of experience and passion to his role, ensuring the highest quality of recreational programs for the community. Matt began his career as a high school teacher and head wrestling coach, a role he excelled in for 18 years, including 8 years at the Grapevine-Colleyville School District. His commitment to fostering growth and development in young individuals has been a hallmark of his professional journey.

Educationally, Matt holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Oklahoma State University, a Master’s Degree in Education from Concordia University, and has completed post-graduate work in Human Resources at Cornell University. This diverse educational background has equipped him with a broad perspective and a unique skill set that he applies to his current position.

Since Nov 2023, Matt served as the Camp Coordinator for the City of Grapevine, where he successfully organized and managed various camps and programs.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys fishing and practicing Jiujitsu. He has been married for 20 years and is a proud father of two daughters. The Criner family has been a part of the Grapevine community for a decade and are active members of Compass Church in Colleyville. Matt’s dedication to his community make him a valuable asset to the City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Department.
