HOW DOES THE WAITLIST WORK?

The waitlist is a way for your campers to have a chance to get into a camp session — if a spot becomes available dependent on cancellations. The waitlist is timestamped from the time joined. Waitlisted families will be contacted in the order in which they registered for the waitlist.

WHAT IS A SESSION?

A session is for the whole week. If you are registering your camper for a week session, you can expect your camper to have the opportunity to participate in all camp activities listed on the website throughout the week (weather permitting), and one session on the lake’s floating water park, WhoaZone, and so much more fun!

WHAT IS A DROP-IN?

A drop-in is for a day. If you are registering your camper for a drop-in day, you can expect your camper to have the opportunity to participate in the camp activities scheduled for the day they will be attending. The camp schedule is made up of the activities listed on the website spread out throughout the whole week (weather permitting). To guarantee your camper gets to participate in all camp activities, register them for a session!

HOW CAN YOU PURCHASE A CAMP T-SHIRT FOR YOUR CAMPER?

After selecting the week you would like your camper to attend, the registration system will ask you if you would like to add any merchandise to your cart. If you would like your camper to take home a Dove Creek Day Camp T-shirt, please select their size then add it to your cart. If you are having any issues purchasing, please email Ethan Eismont, Lake Parks Program Coordinator at eeismont@grapevinetexas.gov, or you may call 817.410.3310.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

WHAT IF MY CAMPER HAS MEDICATIONS?

If your camper needs medication during camp hours or has an inhaler or an EpiPen for emergency situations, please be sure to bring a completed Medication Form with you at drop-off. All medications should be given to a Dove Creek Counselor in their original containers. For prescribed medications, it is essential that they are clearly marked with the child's name, the medication name, and the physician's name.

WHAT DO WATER DAYS ENTAIL?

Water days at Dove Creek Day Camp are a blast! Being located on Grapevine Lake, we have the unique opportunity to kayak, swim, and tube on the lake. For the safety of all campers and counselors, everyone will be required to wear a life jacket during all water-based activities (life jackets are provided). We suggest water shoes for your camper while in Grapevine Lake.

WHAT KIND OF TRAINING DO COUNSELORS GO THROUGH?

Dove Creek Day Camp counselors complete a two-week staff training that covers various aspects of camp operations. This training includes instruction on all camp activities, safety protocols, and procedures for handling emergencies. Additionally, every counselor is CPR certified, ensuring that they are equipped to respond effectively in case of medical emergencies.

HOW DO WE ADDRESS AND COPE WITH THE HIGH TEMPERATURES IN TEXAS?

We are well-acquainted with the Texas heat, and throughout the summer, we stay informed about weather conditions and heat advisories, and we adapt our camp activities and plans based on weather forecasts. When organizing camp, we strategically schedule water-based activities during the peak heat of the day. In cases of unbearable heat, we have a shaded tent area equipped with a portable cooler that we can relocate land activities to if necessary. We place a strong emphasis on the importance of staying hydrated and wearing sunscreen to both the campers and our staff. We provide easy access to water stations and encourage everyone to carry their water bottles wherever they go. We implement sunscreen breaks frequently and encourage them to use sunscreen with a high SPF, as well as wearing sunglasses or a hat.

HOW DO WE INFORM PARENTS AND GUARDIANS OF MINOR INJURIES OR INCIDENTS?

To minimize disruption to parents' or guardians' daily routines and or work commitments, we provide information about minor injuries and incidents during pick-up time. In the case of a significant injury, we will implement our emergency action plan and promptly inform parents or guardians or their designated emergency contact via a phone call. If a major incident occurs, we will adhere to our behavior guidance policy and contact parents or guardians or their emergency contacts via phone call.

WHAT DO WE DO IN THE EVENT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER?

In the event of inclement weather, we will implement our emergency action plan, promptly moving all campers and staff to our designated storm-rated building. To ensure campers remain calm and safe, we'll engage in entertaining games while closely monitoring the weather. We will stay inside the shelter for a duration of 30 minutes after the last lightning strike is detected within a 10-mile radius.
