MLK DAY OF SERVICE

Observed each year on the third Monday in January, MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. Project location, instructions, and information are sent out the week before the event. Date: Monday, January 15 Location: Grapevine Parks Time: 9:00 – 11:00 am

HAPPY TO HELP SATURDAYS

On the fourth Saturday of each month, volunteers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in various projects that benefit the environment and improve the appearance of our community. Projects may include painting, planting, removal of invasive plants, and litter pickup. Just a few hours’ work makes a big difference. HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE EVENT

The City of Grapevine, in association with Keep Grapevine Beautiful and America Recycles Day, hosts this event for residents of Grapevine. Volunteers are needed to help receive and sort donations. Their company representative will present thorough guidelines on recycling at home and how you can be successful in helping reduce waste and contamination. HOW TO GROW AND PROPAGATE AFRICAN VIOLETS

We welcome the Grapevine Garden Club and Tarrant County Master Gardeners for this daytime ECO Talk. You’ll learn about growing African Violets and how to propagate them using leaf cuttings. Supplies and tools used in propagation will be discussed and demonstrated. This informative session will supply you with the knowledge to propagate and raise your own beautiful African violets. Led by a Master Gardener, you’ll find out how to fill your residential plant beds with hearty perennials. DISCOVER THE MAGIC OF BATS

Join us for an enchanting journey into the nocturnal world of bats and their vital role in our environment. Learn about the important ecological roles bats play, from pollination to pest control. RESIDENTIAL IRRIGATION BASICS If your home is one of the more than 13.5 million with an in-ground irrigation system, our lecture will teach you some simple strategies to reduce your water waste and protect the environment. Facilitated by an irrigation expert, you’ll come away with methods to improve sprinkler system efficiency. This package includes a two-hour party room rental for up to 16 children, access to the REC Aquatic Center, and a party attendant. Invite additional children for $10 per child, with a maximum of 24 children. Outside food is allowed in the party room, but alcohol and glass containers are prohibited. An adult must accompany children under age nine in the water. The height requirement for tower slides is 42 inches. All flotation devices must be U.S. Coast Guard-approved. A large multi-purpose room overlooking The REC courtyard, Stewart Hall is the perfect venue for a wide range of events such as meetings, birthday parties, wedding receptions, and more. Stewart Hall rentals include six-foot round banquet tables with seating for eight guests at each. Rectangle tables are available upon request. In addition, the room is equipped with an audio/visual system that includes a rear-projection system. Stewart Hall can accommodate up to 180 guests. For smaller gatherings of 90 guests or fewer, the banquet hall can be split into two smaller banquet rooms during standard business hours. Minimum three-hour rental and all setup and cleanup time must be included in the rental. Cancellations must be made at least 14 days before event date to be guaranteed a full refund. All Stewart Hall reservations must be booked at least 14 days in advance. Alcohol permitted with after-hours rentals only. A great space for fitness and general recreation, the Turf Field at The REC of Grapevine is a full-sized soccer field with a silicone base and turf. AMERICAN RED CROSS WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION

This class provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over.

In this class, you learn to teach swimming and water safety to all ages, including teaching progressions and how to break down each swim stroke. Being a Water Safety Instructor/ Swim Lesson Instructor is a fun and meaningful job that is in high demand.

Master Kim Davis, founder of Freedom Martial Arts Academy, has over 40 years of martial arts experience. She is the 9th Dan Taekwondo, 5th Dan Hapkido, and 3rd Degree Black Belt in Senkotiros Arnis. Tae Kwon Do, a Korean martial art, is for all ages and fun for the entire family. Improve flexibility, concentration, general conditioning, hand/eye coordination, balance, self-discipline, and physical and mental well-being. Youth learn to apply skills in forms, sparring, and self-defense applications. Hapkido adds grappling and some weapons techniques to Tae Kwon Do skills. Senkotiros arnis (stick fighting) is a Philippine art using five basic strikes combined with defense shielding and disarming skills. Students prepare a fully costumed and produced musical theater performance of Matilda Jr. that runs in our theater at the conclusion of camp. Roles are double cast based on age. The Club Warrior Adaptive Fitness program is a combination of sports/strength training and dance fitness through Zumba designed to provide individuals with varying physical abilities the opportunity to be more active and physically fit. The workouts will not only improve the participant’s coordination, balance, endurance, strength, flexibility, speed, and overall health, but will also improve their mood and build self-confidence. QIGONG FUSION

WALK–IN REGISTRATION

Walk-in registrations can be processed any time at The REC of Grapevine during operating hours.

REFUNDS

Your satisfaction is important to us! If you are not completely satisfied with your class, event, program, please notify us. The following are general guidelines for refunds:

Forms may be obtained at The REC of Grapevine front desk. 4) Refunds can be refunded back to the credit card charged or applied to the household account for future use. CANCELLATIONS

All programs must have a minimum number of participants in order to be conducted. If a program does not meet this minimum by 48 hours prior to the program start date, the class may cancel/ combine or make any revisions necessary. A full refund will be processed. Please allow three weeks for a refund.

Participants must recognize that all classes/activities of a physical nature involve some risk, and by registering for a class/activity of this nature, there is an assumption of risk by the participant. The

City of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Department is dedicated to providing safe facilities and equipment for all participants, as well as qualified staff and instructors. Every effort is made to ensure the safety of the participants and to provide them with first-class leisure activities, facilities, and parks. In the event of a serious accident or illness, it is the policy of the City of Grapevine to: 1) Contact Grapevine Fire Department Emergency Services to perform first aid, and when necessary, recommend transportation to a hospital. 2) Reach the parent and/or legal guardian as soon as the situation allows.
